Events
The Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month from September through June, except in January. Our meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the 1910 Building Annex at 381 Main Street, West Newbury, MA. Exceptions to the date and time are noted below. Refreshments are served and guests are always welcome. There is a $5 guest fee when we have a speaker.

Thursday, September 5, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Welcome Back Pot Luck Dinner Receive your new yearbook and rekindle garden club friendships over a pot-luck dinner. Please bring an appetizer, main dish or dessert. Welcome back. Guests are welcome to come and learn about the WNGC. |

Thursday, October 3, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Exploring the Health Benefits of Plants A returning lecturer and club member, Alison Reyes, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a specialty credential in Integrative Nutrition, will discuss the consumption of fruits and vegetables for chronic disease prevention. Members will learn more about the many nutrients found in plants that exert health benefits. Guests are welcome. |

Thursday, November 7, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Public Art, Plants, and Our Planet Public artist, Jenn Houle, inspires “botanical belonging” and eco-action by celebrating the unique visual language of native plants, and their complex relationships to animals and human society. In this lecture, learn how visual art, native plants, and creative placemaking are combined to urge a viable, healthy habitat for all beings. In her lecture, Jean will showcase ongoing public art projects and recent native plant and pollinator murals. There is a $5 fee for guests. |

Thursday, December 5, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Decorating the Town Join us as we decorate wreaths for WN town buildings and create holiday arrangements for residents of WN Community Housing. Bring items to decorate the wreaths such as pine cones, ornaments and a variety of greens. Don’t forget your gloves and clippers! Guests are welcome. |

Sunday, December 8, 3-5 p.m. Cafe Sarina at Nunan’s 269A Central Street Georgetown, MA 01833 Holiday Party - Cafe Sarina Let’s celebrate the season with our holiday party at Cafe Sarina, at Nunan’s in Georgetown. Catch up with gardening friends as we enjoy a selection of food and beverages. Wine and beer are available for purchase. (Members only). |

Thursday, February 6, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Honey Bees, Gardens and the Weather Dr. William Hamilton, owner and operator of Black Birch Farm Apiaries in West Newbury, has been keeping bees for over 50 years in locations across the U.S. Bill has completed graduate level work on honey bee biology, conducts research on how weather affects honeybee activity, and holds classes on beekeeping throughout the year. Bill will bring honey for sale to the meeting. There is a $5 fee for guests. |

Thursday, March 6, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Sustainable Containers Drawing on years of personal experience, professional gardener, Molly Janicki, will take you through her container gardening journey from using plastic containers to fill the bottom of pots and changing annuals every season to Hugelkulture influenced preparation and beautiful combinations of plants that last for years. Enjoy photos from estates throughout New England as you learn practical tips to save time, money, and resources. There is a $5 fee for guests. |

Thursday, April 3, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Make Your Own Floral Arrangement WNGC member, Irene Harnett, will share her flower arranging expertise with club members. The club will provide fresh flowers and containers for members to create their own arrangement to take home. Irene attended and received a diploma from the Floral Design Program at Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota. She then started a floral design business out of her home. (Members only). |

Thursday, June 5, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Plight of the Monarch Shirley Singleton will speak about her accidental personal journey in discovering monarch butterflies. Participants will learn about the needs of the monarch butterfly waystations for nectars (food) and host plants (reproduction) and about their five-step metamorphosis to become a beautiful butterfly. Topics include their annual migration, challenges they face, and tips for assisting the monarch survive. There is a $5 fee for guests. |

Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Art in the Garden Tour Save the date for the WNGC’s 3rd “Art in the Garden” tour. This year’s theme is “Garden as Art” and we invite the public to view the artistic expression of the garden from its design, architecture, color and texture.
