Events
The Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month from September through June, except in January. Our meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the 1910 Building Annex at 381 Main Street, West Newbury, MA. Exceptions to the date and time are noted below. Refreshments are served and guests are always welcome. There is a $5 guest fee when we have a speaker.

Welcome Back Potluck Dinner and Slide Show
Join us as we begin our 90th year by greeting our fellow members while enjoying a potluck dinner. We will be treated to a slide show and receive our new yearbooks.

Honey Bees, Gardens and the Weather
Dr. William Hamilton, owner and operator of Black Birch Farm Apiaries in West Newbury, has been keeping bees for over 50 years in locations across the U.S. Bill has completed graduate level work on honey bee biology, conducts research on how weather affects honeybee activity, and holds classes on beekeeping throughout the year. Bill will bring honey for sale to the meeting. There is a $5 fee for guests.

Bloomin’ Hydrangeas
America loves hydrangeas! With over 70 hydrangeas in her garden, Jane Jeffers, WNCG member and hydrangea afficionado, will share her insights and personal experiences with this flowering shrub. There are six (6) popular species in New England, but what is the best for you? How do you care for them? Should they be cut back or not? Each species is unique. This presentation will explore the most popular varieties in each species and discuss their care and maintenance.

Holiday Decorating for the Town
Always a favorite evening of creating wreaths and holiday arrangements for the West Newbury Community Housing. Please come with items to decorate the wreaths such as ornaments, bows and greens. Glue guns are also needed.

Growing Medicinal Plants in Your Own Garden
Hannah Sparks, clinical herbalist, will discuss her favorite medicinal plants for home gardens and woodlands with a focus on pollinators, health and sustainability.

As we start our gardening season, long time garden club member Kathy Mandeville, will review tips to keep ourselves safe from worrisome insects and plants.

Transforming Lawns into Gardens
Lydia Sisson, local resident and co-owner of Evergreen Farms, will walk us through how to maintain soil health, reduce weeds and transition lawns into pollinator gardens and vegetable gardens.
