The Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month from September through June, except in January. Our meetings are held at 6:45 p.m. at the 1910 Building Annex at 381 Main Street, West Newbury, MA. Exceptions to the date and time are noted below. Refreshments are served and guests are always welcome. There is a $5 guest fee when we have a speaker.

Thursday, October 5, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Feeding Backyard Birds Join us for Bill Gette’s, former Director of Joppa Flats Education Center, presentation on birds seen at local feeding stations and your yard. Bill will highlight how the ranges and populations of bird species have changed in recent years due to climate change, land use and development. Learn about what you can do to create a sanctuary for our local feathered friends. There is a $5.00 guest fee. |

Thursday, November 2, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury A Native Transformation Katie Banks Hone of Ipswich, will share her story on transforming her property in Ipswich, MA with over 80 species of native plants. See non-native foundation plantings replaced by native pollinator gardens and terraced rain gardens built over eroding slopes. Tour her “garden rooms” now filled with native plants supporting birds, bees and butterflies while conserving water along one of the nation’s top ten endangered rivers. There is a $5.00 guest fee. |

Bring items to decorate the wreaths such as pine cones, ornaments and a variety of greens. Don’t forget your gloves and clippers! |

Thursday, February 1, 6:30 p.m. 1910 Building Annex, 381 Main Street, West Newbury Native Plants for Every Yard and Why it is Vital to Plant Them Join this talk by WNGC member, Carol Decker, naturalist and native plant aficionado, to learn about native plants that can be planted in every landscape. Learn about cultivars vs. natives, planting native seeds, no dig gardening, and leaving the leaves. Carol will explain how these ways easily support our birds and pollinators which are in serious decline. |

Learn about breeding trends, selection, naming, setting up the supply chain, and the fun part – marketing the new plant to consumers. It’s a long process and a lot goes into it. Members will learn more about the many nutrients found in plants that exert health benefits. |

After a long winter, it’s time to celebrate Spring’s arrival by making your garden sparkle with over 1,000 sun, shade, and native plants available for sale. The majority of the Plant Sale proceeds support our scholarships. |
