The Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month from September through June, except in January, when we "hole up" after the holidays. Our meetings are held at 6:45 pm at the Annex of the Town Offices at 381 Main Street except as noted below. Wonderful refreshments are served, and guests are always welcome. There is a $5 guest fee. We also hold a December Holiday Party and a Summer Safari in July. |

The annex will be adorned as a festive garden party for our Opening Meeting / Pot-Luck Dinner this year. The evening will be a chance to extend the summer’s revelry as we socialize with friends, old and new, with a brief business meeting, if we must.

Michael Tougias, author, conservationist and self-proclaimed “Mountain Man Wannabe”, brings us to locations far off the beaten path. The presentation will feature his favorite wild places from Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom to the back country of Moosehead Lake in Maine to other areas within an hour of Boston. Magnificent photography combined with humorous anecdotes and adventures will surely make this a fun and memorable evening.

Patricia Morton describes the ancient art of weaving with plants. We will learn how to harvest, prepare and weave using common garden plants such as daffodils and iris, and how the woven cloth is then sewn into useful, beautiful items. Members may try their hands at this technique on a loom provided by the instructor.

Join us for a fun, informal evening making holiday wreaths to adorn our town buildings. Please bring a large bag of greens cut from evergreens, holly, etc. in your own backyards to create our beautiful wreaths to be enjoyed by everyone in the community.

To get ready for the evening, search kitchen and cupboards for that container you just couldn’t throw away, that unique and interesting bowl, cup, tin, pot, can, bucket or whatever. Think about it and go shopping in your kitchen! Next, buy a bouquet at the grocery store and make your container the center of attention for a unique floral design. Bring your special creation to our meeting. Priscilla will demonstrate what you can do with a grocery store bouquet, we’ll “ooh and ah” over each piece, then have a Yankee Swap.

Rita Wolmering, gardener from the Herb Farmacy, explores practical ways of transitioning to organic practices in our own gardens and lawns. Learn the principles and benefits of organic gardening including the use of companion planting to mix the right plants together in the garden to unleash their natural ability to help each other in repelling pests or enhancing healthy growth.

Back by popular demand, this will be our third annual Plant Exchange. Bring a special plant from your garden, labeled with all the particulars, and we’ll put them on display for all to choose. If you’d like, you can bring more than one plant and get one new plant for each one you bring. A great Swap to end the year!
